Donation Trip Scrap Book

Lions Club Emerald / Batik Boutique donated this generator. They not only gave the generator but also set aside some cash to pay porters to carry it up. Six porters carried it all the way to SK Semban, walking on six flimsy bamboo bridges on the way.

The generator bursts into life. We get it running twice a day: two hours in the morning to preserve the meat and fish, and to enable the school to use a donated computer. Another two hours at night to enable the children to study, and to resume preserving the meat and fish. Thanks to the donors. We preserve meat and fish using salt before this.
Sarawak Energy / Batik Boutique Hotel / Lions Club Emerald donated three desktop computers but due to limited power, only one can run at a time. We are still using our laptops when necessary. This is a group of pupils learning multiplication through songs that have been downloaded from Youtube.
Towards a better English. This year, all upper class pupils (Year 4, 5, 6) get a dictionary, thanks to Batik Boutique Hotel and Lions Club Kuching Emerald.
New books on the old shelves… Among the reading materials donated by Batik Boutique Hotel and Lions Club Emerald of Kuching.

We start with lines…A pupil uses water color for the first time. Batik Boutique and Lions Clubs came up with boxes of water color and brushes.
These two kids were using water color for the first time. Batik Boutique Hotel and Lions Club Emerald came up with boxes of water color. At the end of the lesson, the boy asked, “Next time we water color again, ok?”

Batik Boutique Hotel is one of the sponsors of Krista Preschool Mini Olympics 2011 to be held on 17 July 2011. We sponsored the purple t-shirts for the purple house, which we had coined “HeartBeat”.

Donations:	Diesel power generator, desktop computers and computer equipment, printer-scanner-and-photocopier, revision books, workbooks, reference books and story books, dictionaries, futsal net and football, sports team t-shirts, stationery and art materials, board games

The group comprising 17 persons started our trek from the dam construction site at 11.30am on Sunday, 8 May 2011. We were escorted by SK Semban principal Abot and teacher Redan and superceded by 6 porters lugging boxes of our donated goods.

Our trail saw us negotiating no less than 10 bamboo bridges – some more formidable than others – passing corn and paddy fields, and pounding on all sorts of jungle terrains. We passed Kampung Taba Sait and marveled at their organic village construction. The trek to Rejoi took the quickest of us 3 hours and the slowest of us almost 5 hours.

The village school and dormitories are located in the picturesque fringes of Rejoi. Some of us treated ourselves to a refreshing dip in the river and all of us licked up the scrumptious dinner spread prepared by the staff of SK Semban.

After dinner, we took to the task of assembling the 2 desktop computers and printer in the resource centre and another computer at the principal’s office. We successfully tested out all equipment, amidst the restrictions we faced with the limited power source.

The first thing on the school’s agenda on Monday, 9 May 2011 was the school assembly. The children of SK Semban were informed of the donations and token presentations were made. The mist cleared after assembly, allowing for a picture perfect group photo session.

B-With-A-Heart

B-With-A-Heart is The Batik’s way of reaching out to causes which are dear to us. We acknowledge that we exist in a larger universe made up of all sorts of people and al types of communities – we do what we can to help make this enrivonment a joy to live in. Beneficiaries of our B-With-A-Heart initiative include the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society, Krista preschool Mini Olympics under the event brand Heartbeat, and the children of SK Semban under the Elixir of Life Campaign.
